Present Simple

настоящее простое время

Polar bears don't live in hot places. They live in the North Pole. Do they eat fruit and vegetables? No,they don't. They eat fish.

We form the present simple with subject  (the subject pronoun or noun) and the main verb. We usually add  -s (-es) to the third person singular in the affirmative. ( образуем повествовательные предложения с помощью подлежащего  и смыслового глагола. В 3-ем лице единственного числа мы прибавляем окончание - s (-es) к смысловому глаголу)

He goes to school at 8 o'clock.

They like to skate in the park.

Spelling rules:

• Most verbs take  -s in the third person sinular.  (к большенству глаголов мы прибавляем  -s)

run  -  runs       write  -  writes     buy  -  buys 

• Verbs ending in -ss, -sh, -ch, -x and -o take  -es ( к глаголам, которые оканчиваются на -s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, -o, мы прибавляем -es)

 watch  -  watches     wash  -  washes     fix  -  fixes     do  -  does    

• verbs ending in a consonant + y , drop the -y and take - ies  ( к глаголам, которые оканчиваются на согласную + y , мы убираем -у и прибавляем - ies)

fly  -  flies     cry  - cries      study  -  studies

• verbs ending in a vowel + y, takes -s ( к глаголам, которые оканчиваются на гласную + у, мы прибавляем -s)

play  -  plays     enjoy  -  enjoys 
 

The present simple is used for:

• general truths or laws of nature ( говоим об общеизвестных фактах, законах природы)

The sun sets in the west.

• repeated actions or daily routines (usually with time expressions such as: every day, every week every Monday, often, usually, always...)  ( говорим о действиях, которые происходят каждый день, часто, обычно, регулярно) 

She reads books every day.

• permanent states ( постоянное состояние)

He works at school.

In the negative forms we use the auxiliary verbs don't  with I, you, we, they and doesn't with he, she, it. We do not add an -s to the main verb when it appears with doesn't!

(мы строим отрицательные предложения при помощи вспомогательного глагола do и отрицания not. Для 3-го лица единственного числа мы употребляем вспомогательный глагол does и отрицание not. При это к смысловому глаголу окончание -s  не прибавляем)

 -I don't like oranges! Do you?

Alice likes apples, but she doesn't like ice cream.

In the interrogative forms we use the auxiliary verb do with I, you, we, they and does with he, she, it.We do not add an -s to the main verb when it appears with does. (мы строим вопросительные предложения при помощи вспомогательного глагола Do  с местоимениями я, ты, мы, они и Does c местоимениями 3-го лица,единственного числа. При это к смысловому глаголу окончание -s не прибавляем)

 

Does a camel live in Africa? 

Do you like chocolate?

 Time Expressions used with present simple are: 

(эти слова указывают на то, как часто происходит то или иное действие)

every day/week/month/year/; 

every morning/afternoon/evening/night;

usually, always, sometimes, often, seldom never;

in the morning/afternoon/evening, at night;

on Monday/Sunday/Friday
