Lesson 10. Present Continuous

Present Continuous- настоящее продолженное время

We form present continuous with the auxiliary verb to be and the main verb with the -ing suffix.

(Мы строим предложения в present continuous при помощи вспомогательного глагола to be (am, is, are) и смыслового глагола, к которому добовляем окончание -ing)

I am playing football now./I'm playing football now.

  

 They are reading now./Thye're reading now.

She is listening to music./She's listening to music.
Говорим правильно! Произносим все слова в предложении слитно.

We form present continuous negative sentences  with the auxiliary verb to be + not  and the main verb with the -ing suffix.

He is not writing, he is reading./He isn't writing, he's reading.

They are not dancing, they are singing./ They aren't dancing, they are singing. 
Говорим правильно! произноси отрицательные предложения с ударением на not, isn't, aren't.

To be (Are/Is/Am) +  местоимение/имя существительное + глагол-ing ?

We form questions by puttind to be before the subject/subject pronoun.

Is he fishing ?

Are they playing?

 

Spelling rules:

• Verbs ending in -e drop the -e and take the -ing suffix. (Если глагол оканчивается на -е, то -е опускается)

make - making, take - taking, write -writing

 

• Verbs ending in  one stressed vowel between two consonants, double the last consonant and take the -ing suffix

  run-running, sit-sitting, swim-swimming

 Use
We use present continuous for:

• actions happining now, at the time of speaking (действия, которые длятся сейчас, в момент речи) 

They are playing football now.

•  temporary actions (действия в определенный период времени в настоящем)

He is working hard these days. (Not right now.Now he is going to school.)

 

Time expresions (указание на время)  

now - сейчас; at the moment - в данный момент; today - сегодня; this morning - этим утром; tonight -сегодня вечером; these days - в эти дни
