There is/There are

We use There is/There are to say that something/someone exists.(мы употребляем обороты  there is/there are тогда, кода хотим сообщить, что кто-то или что-то находится в определенном месте)

The short form of There is is There's. (в устной речи мы обычно используем сокращенную форму оборота) для существительных в ед.числе

There are hasn't got a short form (оборот there are сокращенную форму не имеет) для существительных во мн. числе

There is (There's) a sofa in the room.

There are three books on the shelf.

Говорим правильно! В утвердительных предложениях обороты There is / There are безударны.

• The question form  is:      Is there ....?/ Are there.....?

Is there a puppy in the box?

Are there five puppies in the box?

• The negative form is: There isn't.../ There aren't....... .

 

There isn't an apple on the table.

The aren't any oranges on the table.

Говорим правильно! В вопросах и кратких ответах слова is  are ударные.

Short Answers

Is there ... ?     Yes,there is./No, there isn't.

Are there ...?      Yes, ther are./No,there aren't.
